Chapter Two

By Neil Simon

Chapter Two is considered by some to be loosely based on author Neil Simon’s own life. It tells the story of George Schneider, a recently widowed writer, as he navigates the complexities of love, loss and new beginnings. When George’s brother, Leo, encourages him to start dating again it leads him on a series of awkward and humorous encounters with the lovely Jennie. Throughout the play George finds himself torn between his lingering grief for his late wife and his desire to move on and find happiness again. With the help of his well-meaning brother and Jennie’s quirky friend Faye, George and Jennie begin to open themselves up to new possibilities, ultimately discovering that love can unexpectedly find its way into one’s life after loss. “Chapter Two” explores themes of resilience, healing and the transformative power of love while showcasing Neil Simon’s signature wit and comedic timing.
